Activate a license
License types:
Individual license – named user: This license is assigned to a specific user, who can install and run MonolixSuite on a personal computer.
Server license – concurrent access: MonolixSuite runs on an application server. A predetermined number of users can access it simultaneously.
Floating license – concurrent access: The license is hosted on a license server. MonolixSuite can be run either on a server or on individual workstations, depending on the configuration.
In all cases, a license key number or file is generated. A license request is only triggered when no license is available on the user's computer or when the existing license has expired.
Individual License
The activation key (provided by Simulations Plus) must be entered in the dialog box titled "LIXOFT - License Manager" (under the "With activation key" tab).

Once activated, the license is stored in {UserName}/lixoft/license
. The dialog box only appears when no license is detected on the computer or the current license has expired.
MonolixSuite is available with individual licenses for PKanalix, Monolix, and Simulx, in case you only require one specific product. A full suite license is also available to enable complete access to integrated visualization, modeling, and simulation features.
When do I need an individual license?
There are two main scenarios:
When the user accesses MonolixSuite on their own personal computer.
When the user accesses MonolixSuite remotely and wants a dedicated license.
Server License
In this setup, MonolixSuite runs on an application server. The activation key (provided by Simulations Plus) must be copied to the following folder on the server:
monolixSuiteInstallationFolder/config/system/access
Each time a user starts a MonolixSuite application, it consumes a license token for that specific application. If all tokens are in use (i.e., too many concurrent users), a popup titled "Lixoft Activate" will appear. The user must then either provide an individual license or additional licenses must be purchased to increase the available token count.
When do I need a server license?
Two main cases apply:
When the user accesses MonolixSuite via remote access. In this case, license management is typically handled by the IT department.
When the user accesses MonolixSuite from a shared directory (via CIFS, network drive, NFS, etc.). If IT provides Lixoft with all users' MAC addresses, Lixoft can issue a dedicated license key so users do not need to enter one manually.
Floating License
A floating license setup requires a license server. There are two usage scenarios:
When the user runs MonolixSuite on their own computer and needs a license that points to the license server. The IT department provides the license key through the license server management system.
When the user accesses MonolixSuite via remote access or a shared directory. Again, the license key is provided by IT using the license server management system.
The setup and configuration of the license management server is described here.
Getting License Information
As of MonolixSuite 2024R1, license information (type, duration, software) can be accessed by navigating to: Help > About License in the interface of the MonolixSuite applications. This menu also allows users to update or add a new license.
